Most clients see their desired results in one treatment, but the exact number depends on your goals, the area being treated, and how much volume is needed to create natural balance. Some concerns—like deeper folds, significant volume loss, or full facial balancing—may require a series of appointments to build results gradually and safely.

Your injector will create a personalized plan during your consultation, including recommended amounts and whether multiple sessions are ideal. Many clients return once or twice a year for maintenance to keep their results looking refreshed.

Most clients find filler treatments very tolerable. A topical numbing cream can be applied before your appointment, and many fillers contain lidocaine, which helps numb the area as the product is placed. You may feel light pressure, a pinch, or mild stinging during injections, but the discomfort is typically minimal and brief.

If you’re sensitive or nervous about injections, let your injector know—we can adjust techniques to keep you as comfortable as possible.

Downtime with dermal fillers is typically minimal. Most clients return to their normal daily activities right away. You may experience mild swelling, tenderness, or small bruises at the injection sites—these are common and usually resolve within a few days.

To minimize swelling and bruising, we recommend avoiding intense exercise, saunas, alcohol, and excessive heat for the first 24 hours. Makeup can usually be applied the next day if the skin isn’t irritated.

Most clients feel comfortable being out in public the same day or the following day.

Filler longevity varies based on the treatment area, the type of filler used, and your individual metabolism. Most hyaluronic-acid fillers last 9–18 months, while areas with less movement—such as the cheeks or chin—may maintain results closer to 12–18 months. Areas that move frequently, like the lips, typically last 6–12 months.

Your body gradually metabolizes the product over time, so results fade softly and naturally. Many clients choose a maintenance appointment once or twice a year to keep their results looking fresh.

Most side effects from dermal fillers are mild and temporary. Common, expected effects include:

• Mild swelling

• Tenderness or soreness

• Small bruises at injection sites

• Redness

• Subtle lumps or firmness that soften as the filler settles

These typically resolve within a few days to a week.

Less common side effects include prolonged swelling or asymmetry, which can usually be adjusted once the filler has settled.

Rare but serious complications—such as infection or vascular occlusion—are extremely uncommon when treated by experienced, medically trained injectors. At Renew Room, we prioritize safety, use advanced techniques, and thoroughly assess your anatomy to minimize these risks.

If you ever experience unusual pain, severe swelling, or skin discoloration after treatment, you should contact your provider right away.

To help ensure a smooth treatment and minimize the risk of bruising or swelling, please follow these guidelines before your filler appointment:

1. Avoid blood-thinning supplements for 5–7 days
Unless prescribed by your physician, avoid:
• Fish oil
• Vitamin E
• Garlic supplements
• Ginkgo biloba
• St. John’s wort
• Turmeric
• High-dose ginger
• Aspirin or ibuprofen (unless medically necessary)

2. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment
This helps reduce your chance of bruising.

3. Hydrate well
Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment. Hydrated tissue responds and heals better.

4. Plan around major events
Bruising or swelling is possible. Schedule appointments 1–2 weeks before important events, photos, or travel when possible.

5. Inform your injector of any recent vaccines, dental work, or illness
We may recommend rescheduling if you’ve had dental work, active infections, cold sores, or recent vaccinations, as these can increase inflammation.

6. Arrive with clean skin
Please come with no makeup, skincare products, or SPF on the treatment area.

7. If prone to cold sores (for lip treatments)
Ask your provider about taking a preventative antiviral medication before your appointment.

8. Eat beforehand
A light meal helps prevent feeling lightheaded during treatment.

Following these guidelines will help your filler settle smoothly and support optimal healing:

1. Expect mild swelling or tenderness
Swelling, small bumps, and slight tenderness are common and usually improve within a few days. Apply a cool compress (not ice directly on the skin) for short intervals if needed.

2. Avoid touching or massaging the area
Unless your injector specifically instructs you, do not press, rub, or massage the treated areas for the first 24–48 hours.

3. Skip strenuous exercise for 24 hours
Elevated heart rate and heat can increase swelling or bruising.

4. Avoid alcohol, saunas, and hot tubs for 24 hours
Heat and alcohol can dilate blood vessels, increasing your risk of bruising.

5. Minimize makeup for the first day
If the skin is not irritated, light makeup can usually be applied after 24 hours.

6. Sleep with your head elevated the first night
This helps reduce swelling. Avoid sleeping on your face.

7. Avoid dental work for 2 weeks
Dental procedures can temporarily shift pressure in facial tissues, so it's best to plan around your filler treatments.

8. Small lumps are normal during healing
Filler settles over 1–2 weeks. If you feel any unevenness that does not resolve, let your injector know.

9. Watch for anything unusual
If you experience severe pain, increasing swelling, changes in skin color, or symptoms that worry you, contact your provider immediately.

10. Plan follow-up if needed
Results refine as swelling subsides. Your injector may recommend a follow-up visit to assess symmetry or do additional fine-tuning.
